Simian Mobile Disco – Seraphim (Review)

This article first appeared in The Fly May 2012.

Their predilection for experiments has ensured Simian Mobile Disco have always stayed fresh. ‘Unpatterns’, their third album, is ostensibly a tribute to old-school house, with opener ‘I Waited For You’ featuring minimalistic, stripped-back vocals and an aIr of moody melancholia.

Though ‘Seraphim’ is still undeniably SMC, its fizzy synths and wobbly thumps would make Hercules & Love Affair proud. This new territory may feel foreign, but re-wiring 80s house with modern-day dub breathes new life into what could have been a dusty dose of nostalgia.

If I were you, I’d click here and read the whole issue online, because it is rather good.
